Welcome to Smile Again
Welcome to Smile Again, my blog about dental implants. I started this blog for two reasons. Firstly, I enjoy writing. Putting digital pen to paper helps me organize my thoughts and often helps me find insight and clarity. Secondly, I started this blog to inform the general public about dental implants.
I've invested quite a bit of time, energy, and money into obtaining a comprehensive dental implant education. I've done over 600 hours of continuing education related to the field, in addition to completing a residency in advanced General Dentistry (see my bio for more info). I'm a Fellow of the International Congress of Oral Implantologists (ICOI.org), and next month will sit for an examination to become an Associate Fellow of the American Academy of Implant Dentistry (AAID.com). I've placed and restored (put the teeth on) close to a thousand implants. I believe dental implants are a revolutionary treatment modality that should force us to re-examine how we think about conventional treatment (for example, does it make sense to cut down two perfectly healthy teeth to make a bridge when a dental implant and restoration can solve the same problem without the same irreversible damage?). I've found that one of the biggest barriers to patients receiving the care they need is lack of knowledge about the options that are available. Dental implants are a relatively new therapy, and, though they are increasingly becoming main stream, there is a gap between the information that is available to the general public, and the information the general public needs to make informed decisions. I hope this blog helps fill this gap.
I plan to be an active blogger and won't shy away from engagement with the dental community or the community at large (my target audience). If you have questions about anything I've written or would like to suggest a topic for a future post, don't hesitate to reply to a post, or contact me directly at dr.geleris@gmail.com.
I hope this blog will help you Smile Again.

Disclaimer and disclosures: I'm a dentist who performs dental implant treatments, and general dentistry in Walnut Creek, California. I don't work for any dental companies (other than my practice). Nobody pays me to write this. As much as possible, I hope to present factual information supported by solid science, however, humans are complex, and the science in this field is constantly evolving.
